4,101 exemplars of the Mercedes-Benz type L 1500 S were manufactured from 1941 to 1944. With 3,601 produced exemplars, the leichtes Loschgruppenfahrzeug - light group fire-fighting- vehicle – (LLG), beginning in 1943 Loschfahrzeug - fire engine - (LF 8), was the most common variant. The remaining vehicles were mainly used as platform lorries by civil organisations and the private industry.
