The M51 "Degem Alef" is the first production configuration of the Israeli M51 "Super Sherman" tank. Developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it was designed to extend the service life of aging Sherman hulls by equipping them with a powerful French 105 mm CN-105-F1 gun to counter modern Soviet-supplied armor like the T-54 and T-55.
