1:35 L4500A with 5cm Flak 41 II - TRUMPETER

The Mercedes-Benz L4500A mit 5cm Flak 41 was a German self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle developed during the Second World War by mounting a 50 mm Flak 41 gun on the chassis of the heavy-duty, all-wheel-drive L4500A military truck. Powered by a six-cylinder OM 67 diesel engine producing approximately 112 hp, the vehicle offered good mobility and could reach a maximum road speed of around 66 km/h. The 5cm Flak 41 was mounted on a rotating firing platform with 360-degree traverse, supported by stabilising outriggers for firing. Capable of engaging aircraft at altitudes of up to approximately 9,400 metres, the weapon provided a heavier anti-aircraft capability than conventional 20 mm and 37 mm guns. Some vehicles featured additional armour protection around the cab and vital components, although the gun crew remained relatively exposed. Produced in very limited numbers, this unusual combination represented a German wartime attempt to provide mobile air defence for military columns and important installations during the increasing Allied air threat.
